I saw your picture today.
It made me sad.
And you know why.
Whether you admit it or not;
You.
Know.
Why.
You got what you wanted,
but I have to ask,
"Was it worth it?"
I have to ask.
Because it cost me.
You may not think it was much.
But it cost me a lot.
Maybe too much.
And that's on me.
I have to ask,
"Was it worth it?"
Because, you see,
It.
Cost.
You.
Too.
Maybe you already know that.
Maybe you already know.
Maybe you've felt the consequences.
Or maybe you haven't.
But it did cost you.
How much?
More than you think.
Much,
Much,
More.
You didn't say anything.
You just did it.
And still didn't say anything.
And haven't.
Which says a lot.
About you.
And your integrity.
Or.
Lack.
Thereof.
But I take comfort in this:
"A good name is better than fine perfume..."
and
"Frustration is better than laughter,
Because a sad face is good for the heart.
The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning
but the heart of fools is in the house of pleasure."
Ecclesiastes 7:1, 3-4
Yes, these words give me comfort,
But they also cause me sorrow.
Great sorrow.
Because I wonder,
"How often is it me?"
How often is it my picture,
That makes someone sad.
How often have I been the one,
to hurt another,
with my actions?
Or with my words?
And I didn't say anything.
Because I was ashamed.
Because I was afraid.
Because I was proud.
Because I just didn't know.
If that's the case.
If it was me.
I just want to say,
I'm so sorry.
Because we don't always know.
But that doesn't make it hurt any less.
And that doesn't make it okay.
Maybe that's why God says,
"Be completely humble and gentle;
Be patient,
Bearing with one another in love."
Ephesians 4:2

first time on your site. Visiting from Sharing His Beauty. Your poem rings so true, and this is something I've really come to be aware of as I get older. Thanks for your vulnerability.
Beautiful and thought-provoking. Thanks for sharing!
Love that verse from Ephesians. Thank you for this reminder to be mindful of my words. God bless!
Wonderfully thought-provoking post... thank you for posting this... we all need to be careful to honor God in all we say and do... (and think!) :)
Lisa, beautiful & very thought provoking. Sometimes we just need to say we're sorry. Blessings!
Something to think about!
We all need to read things like this ones in a while. Thank you for posting.
A thought provoking poem. Hits close to home too.

A picture can cause us to reflect on betrayal, lost love, and what might have been. I was then thinking about Jesus and those who did Him wrong. Even his dear friends ran and hid and were afraid. Their fears were wiped away when Jesus rose from the dead and showed himself to them. In all His Glory, they began to realize the "COST" that he made to bring about our salvation. Oh may we look forward and not wallow in the pen of self pity and regret. God causes all dead flowers to bloom again and become perhaps even better than before. Thank you for sharing your awesome post with us here at "Tell me a Story."
That was a really good poem! I am your neighbor at WFMW liinkup.
Very interesting and compelling, Lisa! We all can relate to these kinds of feelings from time to time. But it's so good that you turned it around and humbly recognized that it could be said of you by someone you know. We all could be that person who hurts others and is oblivious to it. We must remember this and cling to God for the healing we need and the grace we need to extend. Thanks for this creative and relevant post, my friend!
Oh, friend. What a reflective heart you have. Instead of stewing in your hurt and frustration, you let God teach you that you have been fallible, too. It makes forgiveness a little easier when we realize how much we, too, need to be forgiven.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful post at Good Morning Mondays, very thought provoking, blessings.
It's great you can find support in the bible this way!

Happy Weekend to you,

Great point to turn that reflection on ourselves when it is so easy to point it out in others.
Beautiful poem. Loved how you brought from both perspectives.
